Despite its modest size, Taqueria El Amigo packs a powerful punch when it comes to flavor and authenticity.
The highlight here undeniably lies in their tacos—each bite is a vibrant celebration of Mexico’s rich culinary heritage. Favorites like Tacos Al Pastor, Tacos de Carnitas, and Tacos de Carne Asada deliver tender, juicy meat ensconced in freshly made corn tortillas, complemented perfectly by their house-made pico de gallo and signature hot sauces. The tacos burst with mouthwatering layers of smokiness, zest, and subtle spice that transport you straight to the heart of a Mexican street market. The Chicken Enchiladas melt delightfully in your mouth, while the Pollo Con Mole offers a beautifully complex, earthy richness that showcases authentic mole sauce in all its glory.
The menu goes beyond tacos with satisfying options such as Nachos Regulares loaded with melted cheese and fresh toppings, as well as the crowd-pleasing Carne Asada Fries that combine crispy, golden fries with tender grilled beef—a hearty twist on a beloved classic. Sweet endings like the luscious Pastel de Tres Leches provide a perfect balance to your savory feast, offering a creamy, sugary delight that lingers on the palate.
Beyond food, Taqueria El Amigo excels in their beverage offerings. From traditional Horchata rice milk and refreshing Aguas Frescas like Jamaica and Tamarindo, to classic Mexican sodas including the coveted Mexican Coke, every sip complements the vibrant flavors of your meal.
The ambiance at Taqueria El Amigo is intimate and bustling—with limited seating that adds to its charm but also means you might want to call ahead for takeout during peak hours. The friendly staff enhance the experience with attentive service, reinforcing the feeling of dining in a cherished local treasure rather than a commercial eatery.
Customers rave about the authenticity and freshness here. One reviewer described the tacos as "spectacular," noting they disappeared almost as soon as they were served. Others appreciate the faithful recreation of Mexican flavors “close to what you get in Mexico,” while some emphasize the value—calling it a “hole-in-the-wall” gem serving world-class dishes at student-friendly prices.

U N R E A L. Spectacular. The tacos were amazing and I barely got a picture off before we ate them all. The place is very small but very intimate. The service was amazing and it just had such a feeling of a great mom and pop shop. I hope this place stays open forever. It’s tough when a place gets hyped up and you go there and it’s just pretty good… This was not the case this place is absolutely phenomenal. Boston and the northeast aren’t known for their Mexican spots but this place is definitely gotta be top three. My grandparents lived in San Diego and I’ve had family in Mexico so my family and I are always looking for places to bring us back and this is it. Go here. My favorites are the chorizo and carnitas.
Small place with authentic tacos. Tried their enchiladas, nachos, and tacos. Tacos were quite close to what you get in Mexico. Good portion size.
The real deal. Order in Spanish or English, the food is authentic and spectacular either way. This is the original hole-in-the-wall that serves world class food for student cafeteria prices. They've been in the same location for years, never franchised or opened clone stores, just served up some of the best Tex-Mex (emphasis on Mex) available anywhere on the planet. I highly recommend a glass of the homemade Horchata to go with your meal.
The food is great. I always get the taco special. The ingredients are fresh. The only downside is the waiting area. You are packed like sardines in line to place or pick up an order. I would definitely suggest calling ahead and placing an order for takeout over the phone. There are a few tables for sit-down dining but the room is very tight and crowded.
Finally! A place in Boston where the food actually taste Mexican. The pico de gallo that comes with chips is unique and taste great.
100% delicious and fully pleasing! Ate here last night and regret that I didn’t order more. I will be coming here weekly. The food got to my table and the tortilla was still very warm to touch (unlike other similar restaurants that pull the tortilla out of the plastic wrap). The portion size was plenty for what you pay for. They have a hot sauce in a bottle that isn’t on the table unless you ask for it. The service was great, they speak English for the non Spanish speakers. They also are hospitable and cater to you attentively. The restaurant itself is tiny, there are about 6 tables to dine in. No alcohol, but do have delicious milkshakes and horchata. This place is a MUST try. Might be top 5 taquerias in MA. Cash and card accepted.
Great taqueria. Got the two meat taco plate. Good portion and price
HIGHLY recommend this location if you are looking for AUTHENTIC, Mexican food taste. I had the torta de carnitas, chef’s kiss. My husband had a more traditional plate with eggs for breakfast and also enjoyed his dish. Breakfast options are few but am sure are all delicious in their own right. Our server was kind and we received our orders within minutes of placing them. One thing that was a little off was the coffee. Tasted very watered down and hard to pinpoint where the recipe was tweaked. We will return to try their other delicious options though! Decorations on the wall to honor the culture was very beautiful to see.
